How to generate QR code with save as Contact function in CardExchange

This guide explains how to configure a QR code in CardExchange Producer so that it contains contact information, including a person's name, phone number, and email address.

Before You Begin

  • Make sure your database is already connected to CardExchange.
  • Ensure your database contains the contact fields you want to include, such as name, phone number, and email address.

Step 1: Configure the QR Code Function

  1. Open your card template in CardExchange Producer and go to Card Designer.
  2. Open the QR Code Properties.
  3. Navigate to the Function tab.

  4. Paste the following code into the function field:

    stringName = "BEGIN:VCARD\nVERSION:3.0\nFN:" + Varname + "\nN:" + Varname + " \nTEL:"+
    Varphone +"\nTYPE=CELL:" + Varphone + "\nEMAIL:"+ Varemail +"\nEND:VCARD"
This code formats the contact information as a vCard, allowing compatible devices to recognize it as contact details.
 
    

Step 2: Add the Required Variables

  1. In the QR Code Properties, open the Variables tab.
  2. Add the following three variables:
    Info
    • Varname
    • Varphone
    • Varemail

These variables will hold the contact information used to generate the QR code.



  1. In Card Designer, open the Data tab.
  2. Locate the database fields containing the contact information.
  3. Drag and drop the appropriate database fields into the corresponding variable textboxes.
    • Name field → Varname
    • Phone number field → Varphone
    • Email field → Varemail
Make sure each variable is linked to the correct database field.




Step 4: Set the QR Code Content

  1. Return to the QR Code Properties.
  2. Open the Content tab.
  3. Select Script as the content type.

  4. Enter the following value in the textbox:

    stringName
  5. Confirm that QR Code is selected under Symbology.




Step 5: Save and Test

  1. Save your card template.
  2. Open the Records view and select a record with complete contact information.
  3. Generate or print a test card.
  4. Scan the QR code with a compatible mobile device and verify that the contact details appear correctly.

Troubleshooting Tips

  • QR code does not display the correct information: Check that the variables are linked to the correct database fields.
  • QR code does not generate as expected: Confirm that the Content tab is set to Script, the value is stringName, and the symbology is set to QR Code.
  • Contact information is incomplete: Verify that the selected database record contains the required name, phone number, and email address.
