Dual sided print settings of CardExchange

Make sure your ID card printer is turned on and properly connected to your computer. The available settings may vary depending on your printer model and driver.

Step 1: Open Printer Options

  1. Open the CardExchange software.

  2. Go to the Print tab.

  3. Click Printer options.




Step 2: Select Your Printer

  1. Find your connected ID card printer in the list.

  2. Select the correct printer.

  3. Click OK to confirm.

Note: If your printer is not listed, check that it is turned on and properly connected to your computer.



Step 3: Open Printer Properties

  1. Return to the Print tab.

  2. Click Printer properties to open the printer driver settings.


Step 4: Enable Double-Sided Printing

  1. Find the Duplex printing setting.

  2. Select Both sides to print on the front and back of the card.

  3. Click Apply to save the setting.

Note: If you only want to print on one side, select Front only or Back only, depending on your needs.


 

Step 5: Choose the Color Format for Each Side

  1. In the Printer Properties window, select Card front from the left menu.

  2. Choose your preferred Color format.

  3. Click Apply.

  4. Repeat the same process for Card back, selecting the appropriate color format for the back of the card.



Understanding the Color Format Options

1. Color / Composite black (YMC)

Uses the Yellow (Y), Magenta (M), and Cyan (C) ribbon panels to create dark colors, including black. Black areas may appear dark gray instead of solid black.

2. Color / Resin black (YMCK)

Uses the Yellow, Magenta, Cyan, and Black Resin (K) ribbon panels. The black resin panel produces darker, more solid black text and graphics.

3. Monochrome (K only)

Uses only the Black Resin (K) panel to print in black. This option is suitable for text, barcodes, and other black-only elements when supported by your printer and ribbon.

Optional Tip: Reduce Ribbon Waste

To help reduce ribbon consumption, you can try the following settings:

  • Card front: Select Color / Composite black (YMC) and keep Print overcoat checked.

  • Card back: Select Monochrome (K only) and uncheck Print overcoat.

These settings are optional. Use them only if they suit your card design and your printer supports them. Disabling the overcoat may affect the card’s protection and durability.

Step 6: Review Your Settings and Print a Test Card

Before printing your cards:

  1. Confirm that Duplex printing is set to Both sides.

  2. Check the color format selected for both the front and back.

  3. Click Apply to save any changes.

  4. Print one test card to make sure both sides print correctly and the colors look as expected.

Important: Always test your settings before printing a large batch of cards to avoid wasting cards and ribbon.
